Simeon’s Song

As many will soon notice, this Welch melody is most famous with the words to “All Through the Night”, a favorite with performers and audiences alike. The text, “Simeon’s Song”, by Charles Anthony Silvestri, gives new depth and meaning to this lovely tune. As is usual with music that comes from the people, or “folk” music, a wide range of interpretations is possible. This setting should incorporate the conductor’s sense of timing in the use of rubato, ritards, accelerandos, crescendos and diminuendos, all toward the end of elucidating the text to its fullest extent.
