This prayer, written by Rabbi Harold S. Kushner (author of When Bad Things Happen to Good People), so impressed her, that she immediately brought it to my attention, hoping that I might find it suitable to set to music. Upon first reading, the directness of these words moved me deeply. I decided to compose a choral setting as soon as I could secure the rights to set the text.
